MISSION STATEMENT
Mayans for Ancient Maya is an organization dedicated to reviving the rich history of the Mayan culture by supporting teachers and scholars who work at reclaiming and preserving the Mayan language for future generations. The organization, previously named Friends of the Maya, came to Brand Workshop with the task of creating a new name and identity The goal was to provide a solution that would distinguish it among other similar organizations, yet still retain a time honored and traditional feel.
The Brand Workshop team thoroughly examined multiple name directions until deciding on "Maya Antiquo para los Mayas." This name also translates to Mayans for Ancient Maya allowing for an acronym (MAM) that worked in two different languages. After they had a name in place, they began on a logo mark that would carry their philosophy through to the greater public.
Many logo options were meticulously developed that eventually evolved into a direction that utilized a modern version of a glyph. This final direction was able to effectively portray Mayans for Ancient Maya as an organization with a contemporary sophistication, recognizing and honoring the culture it strives to preserve and grow. The strong identity system was then applied to various applications such as the stationery set and website.
